A Nigerian suspect, identified as Nick, has been arrested in India for allegedly supplying approximately N812 million (Rs 5 crore) worth of drugs to around 1,975 consumers in Telangana. The suspect reportedly used an online platform to carry out the transactions.
This arrest comes on the heels of a recent operation in which over 50 Nigerians were arrested for alleged overstaying during a raid. The operation, led by the Delhi Police in collaboration with the Telangana Police’s EAGLE unit, aimed to dismantle a transnational narcotics network.
According to reports, the suspect, Nick, was part of a larger cartel that used encrypted communication and delivery methods modeled after food delivery apps to execute drug “dead drops” and avoid face-to-face exchanges. The cartel’s distribution chain was also linked to a sex trade ring, which provided cover and logistics for drug circulation.
The investigation revealed that the cartel had a sophisticated network, with layers of communication channels and app-based delivery patterns to evade law enforcement detection. The authorities have identified approximately 2,000 individuals who were supplied drugs through courier and dead-drop methods.
The operation resulted in the seizure of drugs worth approximately Rs 3.5 crore, including 5,340 ecstasy pills, 250 grams of cocaine, 109 grams of heroin, and 250 grams of methamphetamine. The authorities also froze 107 bank accounts and identified 59 mule accounts and 16 major cartel hubs in Delhi.
