ENERGY NEWS: Benin, Togo, and Niger Owe Nigeria $19.97m for Electricity

Nigeria’s power sector is facing a significant challenge, with Benin Republic, Togo, and Niger Republic owing a combined $19.97 million for electricity supplied in the first six months of 2025. The debt is owed by the energy companies Societe Beninnoise d’Energie Electrique (SBEE), Compagnie Energie Electrique du Togo (CEET), and Societe Nigerienne d’Electricite (NIGELEC).

In a positive development, Genesis Energy has partnered with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) to supply excess power generated from the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) to the national grid. This strategic collaboration aims to boost Nigeria’s energy sector and aligns with the country’s energy transition and industrialization agenda.
