LATEST NEWS: Lagos State Government Warns Against Human Trafficking and Illegal Migration

The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Government, has cautioned public servants and youths against human trafficking and illegal migration. This appeal was made during a sensitization program themed “Partnership for Protection: Public Servants Against Trafficking and Unsafe Migration” held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa Ikeja, Lagos.

The government urges Nigerians to explore opportunities within the country rather than resorting to unconventional means to travel abroad. This initiative aims to educate and enlighten the public, especially public servants, on the dangers of human trafficking and illegal migration.

Human trafficking is a serious issue in Nigeria, with Lagos State being identified as a major transit and destination point for internal and external human trafficking. The Lagos State Government has partnered with international organizations to combat human trafficking and has established a Human Trafficking and Taskforce Centre to coordinate statewide action against trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants.

The government has also taken steps to provide support to vulnerable populations, including investing in education, entrepreneurship, vocational training, and innovation to provide young people with alternatives to irregular and dangerous migration routes.
