The Central Bank of Nigeria has launched the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) platform, allowing Nigerians in the diaspora to register for a BVN remotely without physical presence. This innovative digital gateway aims to promote financial inclusion, security, and convenience for Nigerians worldwide.
The NRBVN platform, developed in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), incorporates robust Know Your Customer (KYC) processes and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) protocols to ensure transparency and security. With this platform, diaspora Nigerians can access financial services, open bank accounts, and conduct transactions seamlessly.
The registration fee is $50 (approximately N80,000), and required documents include a valid ID, proof of residency, and other KYC documents. The CBN has set a goal to boost diaspora remittances to $1 billion monthly, aiming to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves.
The NRBVN platform is expected to enhance financial inclusion, reduce remittance costs, and promote economic growth. It’s a significant step towards deepening Nigeria’s financial links with its diaspora population, offering broader financial access while enhancing security through global compliance standards.
