LATEST NEWS: Nigerian Girls in India Faces Horrific Abuse: NiDCOM Speaks Out

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has condemned the inhumane treatment of Nigerian girls in India, calling for immediate investigation and justice. According to reports, these young women were subjected to rape, assault, and forced administration of unknown substances while being held in deportation camps in New Delhi. NiDCOM Chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa described the alleged acts as “inhumane treatment and grave violations of dignity and fundamental human rights”.

The commission has begun engaging with the Nigerian High Commission in India, relevant Indian authorities, and international human rights organizations to verify the claims and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. NiDCOM reassured the victims and their families that the reports would not be ignored and demanded the Indian government to urgently investigate these allegations, close down any channels of exploitation, and ensure the safety and dignity of Nigerians within its borders.

NiDCOM has also expressed alarm over claims of corrupt practices involving middlemen and certain groups that worsen the plight of Nigerian citizens through exploitation and extortion. The commission stands in solidarity with the victims, affirming that Nigerian citizens, wherever they are in the world, must not be treated as less than human.
