LATEST NEWS: Thai Police Bust Nigerian Drug Traffickers in Bangkok

In a daring undercover operation, Thai police officers disguised as construction workers swooped in on suspected Nigerian drug traffickers in Bangkok’s notorious Nana area, arresting eight Nigerian men and one Thai national. The operation, carried out by 40 plainclothes detectives, targeted the group’s alleged “spit-and-sell” tactic, where they would hold packets of cocaine and drugs in their mouths, spitting them out to sell to customers when approached, and swallowing them to avoid detection when confronted by police.

The suspects, aged 23-41, were caught red-handed by the undercover officers who quietly approached them on Sukhumvit 11 Road in Watthana district. Police seized two packets of cocaine weighing four grammes and expect to recover more narcotics as the suspects are expected to expel the swallowed packets. The drugs were reportedly smuggled into the country by dealers who ingested packets before arriving by air, which were later retrieved and sold at tourist destinations.

The operation was initiated following online complaints and warnings about African drug traffickers and pickpockets causing disturbances to tourists in the Nana area. Many tourists praised the police action, expressing relief that the area was being cleared of such illicit activities.
