Latest News: Crackdown Alert: Nigeria Immigration Service Kicks Off Enforcement as Visa Amnesty Ends!

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a nationwide crackdown on foreign nationals who overstayed their visas or violated immigration laws, effective October 1, 2025, following the expiration of the Federal Government’s three-month visa amnesty program. Target group include foreigners with expired Visa on Arrival (VoA), Single or multiple-entry short visit or business visas, and Comprehensive Expatriate Residence Permit and Automated Cards (CERPAC) are affected.

Offenders face fine, deportation, or entry bans varying by overstay duration. For stays less than 3 months, penalties include $15 daily fine, removal, or 2-year entry ban. For 3 months to 1 year over stays, penalties are a $15 daily fine, removal, or 5-year entry ban. Overstays exceeding 1-year lead to removal, 10-year entry ban or permanent ban.

This aims to safeguarding national security and ensuring lawful migration. Foreign nationals are urged to regularize their status to avoid penalties. The NIS emphasizes commitment to enforcing laws and protecting national interests. This move signals a shift from leniency to strict compliance with immigration regulations.
