The FBI has successfully tracked down and apprehended a Nigerian national, Farouk Adekunle Adepoju, in connection with a $235,266.80 cyber scam targeting a Western Pennsylvania university. Adepoju, allegedly hacked into a construction company’s computer system and manipulated internal email rules to deceive university officials into wiring funds to a fraudulent bank account.
Adepoju faces six counts of wire fraud and one count of computer fraud, with potential penalties of up to b20 years in prison for wire fraud and five years for computer fraud. He was taken into custody by British authorities on September 15, 2025, and is currently awaiting extradition to the United States.
